Description
Rumah Genteng is a residential revitalization project that reinterprets the character of the existing house—especially its traditional clay tile roof—into a cleaner, more modern, and contextual architectural approach. The project aims to preserve the visual memory of the surrounding neighborhood while creating spaces that feel brighter, more open, and highly functional. The front façade features a simple geometric composition with a combination of exposed plaster surfaces and clean white walls. Strong vertical elements act as visual accents while also providing privacy from the surrounding environment. The existing clay tile roof is maintained as a transitional element between the old structure and the new intervention, creating a dialogue between tradition and modernity. Inside the house, the spaces are organized in a linear flow, connecting the semi-open front area to the family room and kitchen at the rear. An inner courtyard brings natural light and cross ventilation into the interior, creating a cool and comfortable atmosphere while strengthening the visual connection between indoor spaces and greenery. Large glass openings further enhance this relationship and maximize daylight throughout the day. The material palette is honest and minimal, consisting of exposed cement plaster, neutral-colored floor tiles, and warm wooden finishes used for built-in elements and furniture. Indirect lighting integrated into the ceiling and cabinetry emphasizes the architectural lines and creates a warm ambiance throughout the interior. The cabinet beneath the staircase is designed as a multifunctional element, serving both as storage and display, reflecting an efficient and integrated design approach. Private areas on the upper floor maintain the simplicity of the overall form, with tall vertical openings that allow natural light to enter while preserving privacy. Meanwhile, the bathrooms are designed in a compact and modern way, using a contrast of dark and white tiles to create a clean and refined atmosphere. Rumah Genteng explores how architectural intervention can respect the existing context while establishing a new identity. Through strong mass composition, thoughtful natural lighting, and the integration of warm and simple materials, the project presents a home that is efficient, contextual, and full of character.
