Description

Eco Tourism at Curug Ponggang Village is designed as more than just a place to visit—it’s meant to be an experience where people can truly connect with nature and local life. Surrounded by hills, forest, and a natural river flowing into the waterfall, the idea is simple: don’t change the landscape too much, just enhance what’s already there. The design follows the natural shape of the land. Paths gently curve along the terrain, guiding visitors through trees, small slopes, and open views toward the waterfall. Nothing feels forced—everything is meant to feel like it naturally belongs there. Bamboo plays a big role in this concept. It’s not only easy to find in Ponggang Village, but it also represents the local identity and way of life. Using bamboo makes the buildings lighter, more flexible, and more environmentally friendly. Because of this, structures can be built with minimal impact on the ground, especially in sloped areas. Some buildings even feel like they’re floating above the land, supported by simple point foundations. Throughout the area, bamboo is used in many ways—small bridges over streams, simple fences along the walking paths, viewing decks, shelters, and seating areas. Everything is designed to be open, allowing natural light and fresh air to flow freely. Instead of blocking the view, the structures frame the surrounding scenery, making nature part of the space. Along the journey, there are spots where visitors can pause—sit on a bamboo bench, rest in a shaded shelter, or stand on a viewing deck overlooking the valley and waterfall. These moments are important, giving people time to slow down, enjoy the sound of water, and feel the calm atmosphere of the forest. Further into the site, there are bamboo stilt houses and camping areas. The buildings are simple but comfortable, with high roofs and open walls to keep the air moving naturally. There’s no need for heavy technology—comfort comes from smart design that works with the climate. At night, the lighting is kept soft and warm. The lights guide visitors along the paths without overpowering the natural environment, so the feeling of being in the forest is still there. Beyond the physical design, this project is also about supporting the local community. Since bamboo is the main material, local people can be involved in growing, processing, and building with it. This creates opportunities for income while keeping the knowledge and traditions alive. In the end, Eco Tourism at Curug Ponggang is about balance. It’s about creating a place where people can enjoy nature without damaging it, where local culture is part of the experience, and where architecture quietly supports both.
