Description
House Renovation into a Medical Clinic with a Sustainable Material Approach This project transforms an existing house into a medical clinic designed to feel warm, calm, and welcoming within the dense urban environment of Jakarta. Instead of demolishing the original building, the design preserves much of the existing structure to reduce construction waste and minimize the use of new materials. A key sustainable feature of the project is the reuse of the original clay roof tiles. The recycled clay tiles are reintroduced as architectural elements along the side corridor and exterior areas, giving the building a strong natural character while extending the life cycle of the material. Their texture and earthy color also create a connection to the building’s original identity. The project applies an adaptive reuse approach, combining existing materials with simple modern interventions. This strategy reduces environmental impact while creating a clean and functional clinic environment. Natural light plays an important role in the design. Large glass openings bring daylight into the reception and waiting areas, while a linear garden and water element along the side of the building help create a cooler and more relaxing atmosphere for patients and visitors. The interior uses neutral tones and warm wood finishes to create a space that feels both professional and comfortable. Through this renovation, the former house is given a new purpose as a contemporary healthcare facility that values sustainability, comfort, and efficient use of resources.
